呼麦是中国蒙古族创造的独一无二的歌唱艺术，即一个歌手纯粹用自己的发声器官，在同一时间里唱出两个声部，形成罕见的多声部形态。演唱者运用闭气技巧，使气息猛烈冲击声带，发出粗壮的气泡音，形成低音声部。在此基础上，巧妙调节口腔共鸣，强化和集中泛音，唱出透明清亮、带有金属声的高因声部，获得无比美妙的声音效果。呼麦主要分布中国及境外的蒙古族聚居区。在2006年5月20日，蒙古族呼麦经国务院批准列入第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录。中国蒙古族呼麦于2009年9月成功入选《人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录》。
